Traditional Turfgrass Aeration

for Golf Courses, Athletic Fields, Equestrian Fields

Traditional aeration, sometimes referred to as shallow aeration, is the most common and frequent cultivation process done on turfgrass surfaces. It’s benefits are numerous and it is considered a necessity for almost all sports turf. But covering large acreage quickly in an effort to reduce closure of the property (revenue loss) takes a lot of equipment, that’s where we come in. Our fleet of equipment and experienced operators can service large acreage quickly, effectively, and keep your business running.

Traditional core aeration removes thatch, slowing its development and accumulation. Generally speaking, thatch is the enemy for healthy turfgrass as it holds excess moisture and/or becomes hydrophobic, blocks gas exchange, creates disease and insect problems, and causes a soft and unreliable playing surface. Aeration and topdressing are the two most common mechanical techniques to managing thatch and are often, but not always, used in conjunction with each other.

For various reasons turfgrass professionals choose either the use of solid tines or coring tines, as well as the service spacing, hole diameter, and depth. They will also choose how to cleanup cores; drag & blow method or the drag & sweep (core harvest) method.
